Why did you choose your DJ name ?
My original Dj name from back in the early 90s seemed a bit childish now Im a lot older, so i came up with an abbreviation of my surname & its just stuck....
DJ Biography / overview / Bit about yourself and how you got into Djing and where you have played:
Went to my 1st Rave on my 18th Birthday back in 1988, it was all Acid House back then, it was in the middle of Gloucestershire in a muddy field held by some Travellers & of course totally illegal, this was my 1st taste of what was to become many. I used to travel with mates up & down the breadth & width of the West Country UK, Bristol, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire & Oxfordshire, hearing where the Parties were on the grapevine or driving to the regular meet up points to join the convoy, kick open a Warehouse or a Farms Barn doors & wheel in a sound system, 9 times out of 10 we were successful, with the shear numbers overwhelming the Police, hearing the likes of Spiral Tribe, Circus Warp, D.I.Y. & Bedlam cranking up their Rigs. When the authorities started clamping down on the Free Parties, many of us ended up going inside to local Clubs which still had the same close knit vibe, our Clubs of choice were Brunel Rooms in Swindon but especially Goldiggers in Chippenham, then when the scene split from Hardcore to Happy Hardcore & Jungle about 94 ish I went down the Jungle route & started going to a night in Bristol called Ruffneck Ting at "The Depot", which saw the rise of Roni Size, Dj Krust, Dazee & MC Megatron to name a few. I was more into the Free Party scene than going to big commercial Raves, went to Perception in 91 it was OK but didn't have the same vibe for me, so stuck with the Free Parties & small sweaty clubs. Back in the early 90s the Avon Free Festival held by the Travelling community was a fixture in the calendar every year going to my 1st at the age on 16, which grew bigger & bigger as the years past, eventually attracting most of the Rave Sound Systems by 91/92 & culminating in the Castlemorton Festival, which was supposed to be the Avon Free but each county's Police Force moved the convoy onto the next, eventually settling in Worcestershire, where Ravers & Travellers came together for a week long illegal Rave the biggest in UK history, leading to the powers that be introducing the "Criminal Justice Bill". I started to attempt to DJ in 93 bought some Soundlab Belt Drives & a cheap mixer, then moving onto a pair of Vestax PDT5000s Direct Drives & a 4 channel KAM Mixer (now using Technics 1210s & Pioneer XDJ-XZ) eventually putting on our own Raves locally called Boom Shanka (now a YouTube channel), sometimes for the under 18s too, playing alongside guest Djs Druid, Brisk, Dazee, Bunter & Unkown, also did a night at The Depot in Bristol too, I used to listen to Roni Size & Krust on their weekly Galaxy 101 radio show, wrote all the names of the tunes down then went into town to the many record shops & spend a fortune, great times. Just started getting back into things over the past 3-4 years or so & hooking up with like minded people after taking a long break, now with my weekly internet radio show "Beats & Bass Sessions" on a few stations including being welcomed to Energy 1058. The last two years or so Ive started producing my own music, Hardcore & Jungle, with digital releases on CX Recordings & Glowkids Strictly NuSkool Blog labels, hopefully soon a Vinyl release too.....
