Why did you choose your DJ name ?
Way back when, I had a friend who was big into ancient religions and mythology. He didnt mix but spent hours listening to me play. I didnt have a Dj name at the time so was in the market. In a happier state during a party I was playing at he was bigging me up and said "you are like a god on the decks man! - No, Like Odin on the decks!" Bit cringe, but thats how it happened and it stuck..
DJ Biography / overview / Bit about yourself and how you got into Djing and where you have played:
In the late 90's I found myself living in Plymouth looking for a new direction. That direction ended up being a year of parties, raving and meeting like minded people. One of my friends who mixed brought his decks over for a party and said he would leave them at mine for a couple of weeks while he went on holiday. So there I was with two 1210's a bag of tunes and no instructions! A week later I could beat match but was sick of the sound of Zombie Nation, Sandstorm and time to burn! lol. I asked my mum to buy me some decks for my birthday (bless her) and I had my first set of Numark belt drives. A week after that another pal called me as he had a friend who needed some quick cash (didnt ask what for!) He was selling his 1210's for £250. Needless to say my birthday present went back to the shop quick time. The old girls are still going strong today! From this point I practically lived in the old Music & Video exchange where I began buying my own vinyl. During the early 00's I moved back to Birmingham and got into the emerging UK Hardcore Scene. I played at loads of parties and the odd small event. The highlight being warming up for and then going B2B with Vibes & Livelee at a night in Banbury.
What or who are your influences to play what you play?
I love all avenues of the rave scene and have influences from all over. The first time I heard a tape of Groovrider playing in 94.. I was instantly hooked on Jungle. I then got into Happy Hardcore and was heavily influenced by the likes of Vibes, Slipmatt and Force & Styles. I then began looking back to were it all came from and realised that my heart was firmly in the 90-93 vibe. The likes of Seduction, Ratty, Ellis Dee, Tango etc all shaped my musical passion. The newer wave of hardcore coming through now is an inspiration in itself with so many awesome artists & tracks propping up the early 90's sound. I also owe a lot to Dj Nee of Enormous Mouse who heard a track I produced and played on his show. He has since encouraged and helped build my confidence in production and deffo one of my more recent influences.
What other intrests or hobbies do you have apart from Energy1058?
Outside of DJ'ing I am a drummer in a couple of bands playing private parties, weddings and events. Very different the the rave vibe I love but my musical taste is rather varied.
