Why did you choose your DJ name ?

It started on Twitter. My toddler’s favourite show was Octonauts on CBeebies - an animated show about a team of adventurous marine biologists, who also happen to be animals. Peso is this really cute, timid penguin who time and again is the bravest in the show. I thought it would be amusing to give him a Twitter account and make him a massive drum & bass head, and get shout outs for him on radio shows. I ended up making links with loads of producers and DJs and fellow d&b lovers as Peso, so when I started DJing it made sense to keep the name.

DJ Biography / overview / Bit about yourself and how you got into Djing and where you have played:

I’ve been into electronic music since hearing things like Bomb the Bass in the late 80s, and when the rave scene exploded in the 90s it kind of took me over, first of all with hardcore and then jungle and d&b. Music on Metalheadz, Good Lookin Records, Movin Shadow and DJ Crystl were early favourites. The love for the music has remained constant since then but I only started DJing in late 2016 when I got my first controller. I quickly started doing live radio on AfterDarkRadio and making the #drumnbreakfast podcast with long time raving buddy DJ Remedee. I’ve also been playing only Drum & Bass, Fright Night Radio, The Underground Lair and Alphawave Radio, and of course, the Sunday breakfast show on Energy.I never thought I’d be playing live to crowds, but the journey has also led to sets at WhiteNoise Festival, Monita’s Dirty Dozen night in London, Depth Charge, and most recently Maui Waui accompanied by the awesome Ella Sopp.

What or who are your influences to play what you play?

I’m not an expert in it, but I love jazz music, so if I come across anything remotely jazzy in d&b or jungle it has to be played.

What other intrests or hobbies do you have apart from Energy1058?

I’m a bit of a pool fiend, playing for a couple of teams locally in Norfolk, England. Also keen on exploring spiritual things, mindfulness and meditation to keep me sane and present.
