Why did you choose your DJ name ?
Way back in 199x as a raver, I dreamed that one day I would make it onto the decks, my favourite DJs at the time being Colin Dale and Colin Favor. The DJ name stems from these Techno influences and simply stands for Vortex of Techno Sound. I never did spin Techno in the end, I ended up going down the Hardcore route, but stuck with the name!
DJ Biography / overview / Bit about yourself and how you got into Djing and where you have played:
I started DJing in 1994 when a mutual friend introduced me to some like minded ravers, one who owned a set of decks. A few house parties later and our time at University was over. From there I started DJing online with Leetradio and spent a few years touring with Obsessed (formerly known as Obsession) playing venues such as Dance Academy, Brunel Rooms, Lakota and others before family life took over. I was encouraged out of retirement by my partner and friends taking up slots with various radio stations including Fusion Radio, UK Raves, LazerFM Worldwide, BassBox Radio and Energy 1058! In between these things I have a 'local' residency with a DJ peer group the Dursley DJ Collective and have had the pleasure of playing for Hardcore Revival.
What or who are your influences to play what you play?
Whilst DJ Ratty has been the biggest influence for me , alongside other greats such as Slipmatt, it's actually friends that both inspire and encourage me the most. DJ Bagpuss and Kismet, you guys are my hero's! 😁
What other intrests or hobbies do you have apart from Energy1058?
Outside of DJing you will find me doing one of the following:
